Help
Let’s get you started.
How to add your memories, shape your reflection and keep your account safe.
First steps
You must be at least 16 to use Charms. If you’re 16 or 17, you also need a parent or guardian’s agreement.
- Create an account. Choose a username and password. Save the recovery code you’re shown after signup—you’ll need it if you forget your password.
- Add a memory. Open Add memories and write something you’d like your twin to know. That first memory becomes the first star in your galaxy.
- Turn on learning. In Your twin, enable background learning for your galaxy. You’ll see its progress and can review what it learns.
- Have a conversation. Open Talk to your twin and ask about something you saved. Its reply shows which sources it used.
Adding memories
Write a note or select files to upload. Charms accepts any file extension. Readable text and code become searchable straight away. Supported images can be described; PDF, Word, presentations and spreadsheets can get an AI reading. Supported audio and video can get a speech transcript. Music and videos can play when your browser supports their codec. Other formats stay as original downloads; add notes to tell your twin why they matter. Each file can be up to 5 MB, with 20 files in a batch. You can review the accepted files before importing them.
What does Quick add do?
Choose files or a folder and start analysis. OpenAI reads supported selected information and suggests memories to keep. A file with no reader gets an original-only suggestion, with no AI inference from its name. You review the suggestions before saving them. Only saved memories become stars, and temporary reviews expire after 30 minutes.
Why is my galaxy empty?
It starts that way. Each star comes from something you’ve saved. The AI’s interpretations don’t add extra stars. You can also find everything you’ve saved in the memory list.
Bring something over from WeChat
In Connections, paste a chat excerpt or choose a readable TXT, CSV or JSON file. Previewing happens on your device. Choose the messages to keep, review the sharing notice, then save. Only the selected text, sender labels and timestamps go to Charms. One saved selection becomes one source in your galaxy. The same selection and conversation title will not create a duplicate.
This is a manual import, not a link to your WeChat account or a background chat sync. WeChat login does not grant Charms access to personal chat history. Encrypted databases and native backups are not readable imports. The format guide in Connections shows the CSV and JSON fields Charms accepts. Each selection supports up to 500 messages and 180 KB of text.
Sender names are unverified: a message labelled “Me” is not automatically treated as your own statement. Review personal insights in Your twin. Saved messages can be used in replies and by background learning when enabled. Share only content you intend to keep and have a proper basis to share. Edit, export or delete the saved source through the usual memory controls. To add a photo, voice recording or video saved from WeChat, use Add memories.
WeChat’s official login API reference describes account information access.
Background learning
Learning is off by default for each galaxy. Turn it on to have OpenAI read saved sources and organise what it finds into summaries, categories and details about you. Saved text is read in parts. Documents and media need your approval before OpenAI can create a reading or speech transcript. Review and save that text before your twin learns from it. Generated readings can contain errors or omit details. Spreadsheet readings can omit rows and sheets. Videos are transcribed from audio only; visuals and instrumental music are not analysed. Files without readable content need your notes. Your twin shows what’s done and what’s waiting.
Is this my own AI model?
Your memories and learned profile are personal to your account. The AI model comes from OpenAI; Charms does not train a separate model for each person. You don’t need a ChatGPT subscription.
Does it use every memory in every reply?
No. It looks up relevant information from your library for each reply. There’s a limit to how much the model can read at once, and it can miss or misunderstand details even after processing a source.
What if it gets something wrong?
Open Your twin to see the source behind an insight. You can confirm it, dismiss it or edit the original memory. A clear correction can replace an older claim while keeping the earlier evidence available. Check important details yourself.
Can I pause it?
Yes. Pause background learning in Your twin to stop new processing. A request already running may finish, and anything already learned stays saved. Learning and chat share daily request limits, so processing may have to wait if you reach them.
Remembering conversations
Turn on Remember conversations when you want your new messages to become memories. It’s off by default. Switching it on also enables background learning; both need to stay on to save new messages.
AI replies don’t become facts about you. A short amount of recent conversation is saved alongside your message to help make sense of answers and corrections. That context can include AI replies.
What if the reply fails?
Your message may already have been saved. Check the status shown with it. If you retry that failed turn, Charms uses the same save receipt to avoid creating a second memory.
How do I correct an old preference?
Say what’s changed: “My favourite drink is tea now, not coffee.” With remembering and learning on, that message can update the older preference. Check Your twin to see the result.
Does clearing the chat delete its memories?
No. Clearing the chat or reloading removes the recent conversation in your browser. Saved messages stay in your library until you delete those memories. Turning remembering off only stops future saves.
Your data
Charms stores your account, uploaded originals and learned profile on its server. AI features send relevant information to OpenAI. This release does not offer end-to-end encryption.
You choose what to upload; Charms doesn’t scan your computer or read raw RAM. You can edit or delete individual memories and export your galaxy’s records from Settings.
Windows app
Download the setup wizard, choose a folder and open Charms. The app opens the hosted service in a separate Microsoft Edge window. You’ll need Windows 10 or 11, .NET Framework 4.8 and an internet connection.
The installer is unsigned, so Windows may show an unrecognised publisher message. You can check your download against the release details and SHA-256 checksums.
Use the same Charms login as you do in your browser. Your memories stay in that cloud account. The app doesn’t run a local AI model or automatically import a library from the earlier local version.
